Who we are

A monastery built by its village

Lopche Monastery stands in a remote rural village in Dolakha, Nepal — about four hours from Kathmandu. Unlike many larger monasteries, it has no strong financial support: it was built mainly through small donations from local villagers and offerings made during pujas.

Despite these challenges, construction is now complete. Today the monastery serves some 6,000 local villagers and is home and place of practice for 15 monks. Sponsors were found for its three main sacred statues — Buddha Shakyamuni, Guru Rinpoche and Chenrezig — but funds ran short for their traditional painting, gilding and finishing, and money had to be borrowed from a local businessman to complete this sacred work.

One final aspiration remains: to repay this loan and to install a 12-foot statue of Buddha Amitabha on the roof of the monastery — a symbol of peace, compassion, and prayers for world peace. Your support helps preserve the Buddha Dharma, creates lasting merit, and brings blessings to countless beings.
