Who we are

Educating girls the Himalaya leaves behind

Founded in 1995 by Lama Gondup with five nuns, Kunsang Choling is now home to around 70 girls from Nepal’s poorest, most remote districts — Mugu, Humla, Dolpo, Solukhumbu and more. They live, eat and study together, learning Buddhist philosophy alongside English, science and maths.

For these families, the nunnery is often the only route to safety, nutrition, healthcare and a real education for a daughter. The brochure notes the community still lacks a complete shrine hall — the long-term dream beyond this new home.
