The Story
We humbly seek support in helping a Geshe from Drepung Monastery reunite with his family in Hong Kong after many years apart.
He left Tibet in 1997 to pursue his monastic studies in India and has since devoted most of his life to Buddhist studies and practice, eventually completing his Geshe and Lharampa degrees — Lharampa being the highest academic degree in the Tibetan Buddhist monastic tradition.
In all these years, he had only one opportunity to briefly return to Tibet, in 2017, for about three months to visit his mother and family in the midst of his studies. As the years passed, he quietly carried the thought that he might never have another opportunity to see his aging mother again. Given present circumstances, travelling back to China has become extremely difficult — close to impossible — for Geshe-la.
When we shared the idea of arranging a family reunion in Hong Kong, where his family could travel from Tibet to meet him, he was deeply touched and overjoyed. The possibility of seeing his elderly mother again after so many years was something he never imagined would be possible.
Having dedicated most of his life to monastic education, studies, and spiritual practice, he does not have substantial personal savings for such a journey. We are therefore hoping to help make this meaningful reunion possible.
Administrative matters in both Tibet and India are still being completed, and the reunion is hoped to take place in the coming months if conditions allow.
